Portfolio Update – April 2019

Things got pretty interesting this April. It is earnings season report this month that most of the companies announced their earnings.

PH Stock Portfolio

SCCSemirara Mining29.509223.85-19.18%
MERMeralco282.118538536.47%
CLICebu Landmasters4.85884.50-7.38%
FBSan Miguel Food & Bev62.189911686.53%
PHENPhinma Energy1.471.608.84%

My Portfolio year to date performance is 9.55% while the PSEI ytd is 6.52%. Currently ahead of the PSEI. But I have low expectations that it would continue.

New addition is PHEN. It may or may not be a long term holding. Depends on what happens on Ayala’s acquisition and terms. MER, CLI, FB have all increased their earnings. SCC actually declined in earnings because of a bad 2018, power plant shutdowns, typhoons interrupting mining operations. The decline in price is to be expected. I might have just been too early. Dividends are nice though.

US Stock Portfolio

SymbolCompany NameAve PriceMkt PriceP / L %
FOXA21 Century Fox37.0139.205.92%
DISDisney101.08139.337.81%
FTDRFrontdoor23.0435.1952.73%
REZIResideo19.0122.8019.94%

The US stock portfolio is doing well. It is currently around 28% year to date. DIS increased in share price is because of their plan to compete with Netflix. I might just be lucky on this, since I planned to buy DIS just because I wanted to have a cheap entry price. But buying great businesses tends to get luckier more frequently than buying crappy ones.

Real Estate Portfolio

Type of PropertyBoughtPrice PaidMortgageCashflow

2. 3Br/1TB HouseJan 2019P290,000P3,500 / mo
Total   P5,500 / mo

Remember the real estate agent who wanted to buy my Property #2? Well, she asked me if she could buy both Property #1 and Property #2 for P1,000,000. Which would make each property sold for P500,000. With further contemplation, I said “ok, let’s do it.”. So we are just waiting for her money and proceed with the deal. Not sure when that would happen though, maybe a month or two. But 85% return on my money is hard to pass. Even if it takes longer, since I’m not really inclined to sell assets, the rents just keep chugging along.

Showing my Portfolio

I have been thinking lately… There are some people here who reads this blog. Copy my portfolio without having to really understand the investment process. My goal in starting this blog has been to share my experiences and to document my journey and through that, educate people about investing. But it seems that I may be doing more harm than good in showing my portfolio to people who are just copying it, people who have no knowledge about investing and doesn’t know the risks involved. I have been thinking of removing the “updates” and the showing of portfolio to public. But I am still undecided.

Maybe make it a private page to people who really wants to see my portfolio, my analysis and trades of specific companies, and knows how to invest and the risks involved? The private page would be a paid subscription. Though, I still need some time to think. Hard work, analysis takes time. I don’t think its wise to give away something you’re good at for free. – Joker reference

  1. Hello. Iresh here.
My search for value investing lead me to your page. Most of people I know don’t do stocks or any investment vehicles. For some who do, they trade. I want insight for fellow value investor. Okay, I’m still long way ahead of the game. It just that I wanna read insights and ideas for someone already doing it.

So, I’ve been eyeing Mutual Fund, UITF and Preferred Shares for a while.
    For Mutual Fund
I’m thinking Money Market for funds that I need to release next year ( Mom is nagging me to start constructing a new house. )
For other funds, I’m actually curious on the Index Fund and Equity Fund.

For Preferred Shares, I’m eyeing FGENG and SMC2C for at least 7% dividend yield.
For Stocks, not sure if I can also reply it in your page or I should message you privately about it, I also have MER and CEB when they are bargain. I’m still exploring your page. I’m looking for step by step procedure how to invest in US stock market ( at least to open an account).

Please continue posting your experience! :0

      1. Thank you. I’m still weighting my options now. I’ve been reading both Secrets of Millionaire Mind by T.Harv Eker and rereading Rich Dad,Poor Dad. Planning to re read The Intelligent Investor as well since the last time I read it was like 3 or 4 years ago. Its probably time to read and wait.

Basically, I’m just listing down available options for now then will do my research on each. My target companies to average down like GMA7 and SPC are still not in my target price 🙂 I purchased both since they both passed my two basic requirement: 1. Good Dividend Yield 2. Good fundamentals. 3. I can sleep at night.
